These are the ruins of Zvartnots Temple (Temple of the Vigil Forces). In its hey days, it was considered one of the architectural wonders of Armenia. Built between 641 to 661. it has been recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 2000. Built as a circular structure, it had interior piers that supported a multi-storey configuration with a dome on top. It lies in ruins now due to an earthquake in the 10th Century or destruction by Arabs.

Archangels Michael and Gabriel adorn the gateway to Etchmiadzin Cathedral. Etchmiadzin used to be Armenia's ancient capital. Considered as the Mother Church of the Armenian Apostolic Church, it was listed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 2000. Its museum contains a large collection of religious artifacts, including the Holy Spear. The original cathedral was built between 301 - 303 AD over a pagan temple to symbolise the conversion of Armenia to Christianity. Legend has it that Noah came to the spot where the cathedral is after the Ark landed at Mt Ararat after the great flood.
