SRI LANKA, PEARL OF THE ORIENT (Cont'd)

All geared up for our River Safari.
A contraption for catching prawns.
An ingenious way to shield herself from the sun.
A memorial for the victims of the Tsunami that struck Sri Lanka on Boxing Day, 2004. It took the lives of 60,000 people and six dogs.
These partially destroyed houses have been left to remind people of its devastation.
This statue of Buddha was raised after the Tsunami with an outstretched right palm to signify that tsunamis should stay away from Sri Lanka.
The clock tower of the old Portuguese fort of the Inner City of Galle. The Outer City was built outside the fort.
From the fort, an image of the city of Galle.
Children playing cricket in the fort grounds. Seems like in this male-dominated game, the girl is excluded.

A lighthouse on the southern coast. There are two types of coconut in Sri Lanka. The smaller yellow one is called 'king coconut' which is reputedly very good for health. These tall ones belong to the green category.
