Everyone is waiting to go on a tour of the Areni Winery in Areni Village. It is a small winery but considered one of the main attractions for good vintage wine, Its location near the Areni-1 Cave probably adds to its allure.

Earthen vats, semi-buried, are used for fermentation of grapes.

Oak barrels are used for storage of wine.

Bottled wine storage. Must be enough wine here to drown someone in a small pool!

A winery staff explaining the process of wine-making.

This pic and the one below are of Jermuk, a well-known spa resort famous for hot mineral water springs. There are walking trails, a lake, natural bridges and a waterfall. Unfortunately, we couldn't visit for inclement weather that day

Spouts where hot natural spring water flows perennially.

An overview of Tatev where we were to go on the longest ropeway in the World (entered in the Guinness Book of World Records as 5.7 km) to view deep gorges and beautiful natural settings. As the cableway was non-operational, we missed visiting Tatev Monastery, built 9th C, as an intellectual centre where philosophers, musicians, painters, calligraphers and monks lived.
