The tall building in the background reputedly erected by the son of Li Peng was intended to house a five-star hotel. Although construction started some six or seven years ago, it has never taken off as a hotel. There was even a fire that destroyed parts of the building. The Chinese believe that its height overshadowing the Shenyang Imperial Palace has rendered it at odds with Fengshui principles and hence its current state of affairs.
